Tips and Tricks to Help Improve Your Self Image

Self image is to do with perception. It’s how we see ourselves and affects our behaviour, our thinking and how we relate to others. The beauty of this is that with a little help, when we need to, we can change that perception.

So if you want to improve the image you have of yourself, here are some ideas that you can put into practice today, change any negative perceptions and gain a much more positive self image.

Practice smiling

It will make you feel good. The better you feel, the better you’ll perform. You’ll also make others feel good; people who feel good are more receptive.

Whenever you see your reflection in a mirror, make sure it has a smile on its face!

Reflect at the end of the day. What’s the biggest compliment you can give yourself today? Do it!. It will help you to get a better nights sleep and a more natural sleep.

Nurture your self image

Think of three people whom you believe have high self worth. Write characteristics of their self-image against their names. Write down your own characteristics. You are just as good as the other three, aren’t you?

Do it before the end of today

Dress the part

Think consciously why you are wearing your particular clothes or hair style. Tell someone close to you the kind of impression you are trying to give. Their feedback might be uncomfortable to accept initially. Your appearance should reflect the person you want to be.

Resolve to accept any feedback you get as positive support

Don’t be bullied

Bullies dominate through bluster and force, not facts. Get your facts, do your homework, solicit the views of others. You will not only come over as someone who is organised and firm, but it will enhance your reputation at the same time.

If you feel you are being bullied, start to deal with it, the next chance you get.

Avoid self pity and self criticism

By doing something, anything – provided it’s meaningful, you can avoid the excess time that would otherwise become available for self-pity or self-criticism.

Whenever you feel yourself slipping, take decisive action!

Offer others unconditional help

Without expecting anything else in return, help others whenever you can. It has the unusual effect of boosting your own self esteem.

Be persistent

Learning the art of persistence will enhance your self image. Calmly repeating your point over and over again enables you to cope with situations where you are likely to be otherwise diverted by clever, articulate irrelevant arguments.

Appreciate how powerful this can be, even if it doesn’t work for you first time. Don’t give up!

Adopt one attribute at a time and notice the difference it makes!
